What is Crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is a great chance for the whole community to get involved in the Social Enterprise ideas being incubated through The Pitch. From July 29 to August 19 you will have the opportunity to support these ideas through your own donations, providing much needed start-up capital to grow these impactful businesses while at the same time “voting with your dollars” to help determine which of the 5 ideas will move on to the Live Pitch. Keep on the lookout for more information about the crowdfunding stage of the competition as the date approaches! Use the participant list to read more and crowdfund a specific idea.

The Common Wheel mission is to encourage bicycling in Lancaster by creating a fun, welcoming space where they provide access to hands on education and tools to all members. With the goal of supporting and helping the bicycle movement in a concrete way, Chris Caldwell started to look at the community bike shop model. He implemented that model in Lancaster with The Common Wheel: A Community Bike Center. The Common Wheel will work to encourage bicycling in Lancaster city by offering their “Earn a Bike” program for children that are hoping to get a bicycle, as well as providing a location for bike education and repairs. They offer refurbished bikes for affordable prices. Ultimately, The Common Wheel’s mission is to get as many people as possible riding bikes.
thecommonwheel.comSam Fisher developed the Solar Shepard, a 100% solar powered tool that revolutionizes the way animals are raised. Solar Shepard is a mobile fencing structure which allows various types of animals to be raised on grass, with minimal fossil fuels, no fences, no buildings, no equipment. Additional benefits include the following: There is no footprint, which leaves more available land to graze. The system allows production of 100% grass-fed dairy products with minimal input. The animals have a secure protected environment from sun, wind, precipitation and predators. Animals can be raised in city vacant land, park land, business parks, median strips or sides of highways.
